Getting the Love you Want

Getting the Love you Want

Private, Structured Couples Workshop Program
| Crows Nest, Sydney www.marriageworks.com.au

You love each other, but lately it feels harder to talk, easier to misread each other, and
exhausting to keep circling the same conversations. Getting the Love You Want® is a two-day couple’s workshop designed to help you slow things down, understand what is really happening beneath conflict, and reconnect with clarity, safety, and
respect.

This workshop is facilitated by Philipa Thornton, psychologist and advanced Imago therapist,
alongside her ‘helper’ husband Chris Paulin, fellow psychologist. With decades of clinical
experience, warmth, fun, and steadiness to they specialise in creating a space where couples feel
supported, safe and connected. As life partners they live this journey.

This is not therapy. You work privately with your own partner throughout the weekend. Sharing with
the group is always optional.

Why Couples Choose this Workshop
Most couples don’t come because they are failing. They come because they still care and do not want
to keep repeating the same patterns.
Based on the internationally recognised Imago Relationship Therapy model, Getting the Love You Want® has been refined over decades and is offered worldwide as both a stand-alone experience and a powerful complement to therapy.
Over two carefully structured days, you are guided step by step through proven conversations that reduce reactivity, increase understanding, and make it possible to feel heard, seen and valued again without blame, interruption, or escalation.
Many couples leave saying they finally understand the ‘what’ of what has been happening and truly feel equipped with tools they can return to when things get hard. The relief of not having to meet for hours and weeks of therapy is refreshing for many.

Why Couples Feel Safe with Philipa and Chris
Philipa and Chris bring a calm, balanced, and deeply respectful presence. Couples often say they
feel emotionally safe rather than exposed, guided rather than pushed, and understood rather than analysed.
Chris’s presence adds a grounded, relational steadiness that many couples find reassuring, particularly for partners who are hesitant about therapy-style environments. Together, they model the kind of respectful, human communication this workshop supports.

This workshop is especially suited to couples who value privacy, structure, and emotional intelligence, and who want depth without drama.

What You will Learn Together
Couples learn how to:
• Navigate recurring conflict around money, intimacy, parenting, trust, and unmet needs
• Speak and listen without escalating, shutting down, or walking on eggshells
• Understand each other’s reactions with compassion instead of blame
• Repair moments of disconnection without reopening wounds
• Build emotional safety while appreciating differences

o “Less talking about us. More talking to each other.”
– L., Woden ACT

You do not need to be in crisis.
You do not need to have all the answers.
You simply need a willingness to slow down and show up together.
Especially suited to All Couples

This workshop is particularly powerful for couples who are capable, thoughtful, and successful in many areas of life, yet find their relationship is where things feel most confusing or fragile.
If you are good at coping, analysing, or staying composed but struggle to feel truly met or understood by your partner, this work often lands deeply.
Many couples say, “We manage everything else. We just don’t know how to do this part.”
